Friday afternoons/evenings, listen to DJs spin while kicking in a beautiful garden in the Upper East Side.

Very easy to get to on the subway. Tons of friendly people sitting outside in a huge outdoor space drinking yummy Germain brew. Really, quite hard to beat for a Summer's afternoon.

Outdoor flicks from Willy Wonka all the way to Gladiator. This is a more chill alternative to the Bryant Park flicks.

This doesn't start until late June. But it is a fun place to get some sun, hear some music, drink beer, and stand in a long line for the bathroom.

You just can't beat getting away from all the sweaty New Yorkers on the streets by cuddlilng up with half naked sweaty New Yorkers out in Sheeps Meadow. And if that gets boring, skip on over to Strawberry Fields and pick a fight with an aging Baby Boomer by telling them that Kurt Cobain was twice the musical genius that John Lenon was!

The views of Manhattan at night are top notch. Its also a short walk from PS1, so if you are there, check this place out for an afterhours burger and beer with your fellow bohemians.

Its a better space than Bryant Park for watching movies (the gradually sloping hill helps). Plus the view of the bridge and the city are pretty incredible.

These performances are always amazing. They're also free. The catch is you have to wait in line for a few hours to get the tickets. On the weekend, I think you have to get there by 9 a.m. or so to ensure that you'll get tickets at 1 pm. Just bring a book and a comfy lawn chair and make a day of it. From the site regarding tickets: Pick up your FREE tickets to Shakespeare in the Park on the day of the performance beginning at 1pm at The Delacorte Theater in Central Park, or from 1 to 3 pm at The Public Theater at 425 Lafayette Street, just south of Astor Place. For more information, please call 212.260.2400. Please note, there is a limit of 2 tickets per person.

This site has a good list of key outdoor bars from chill to fancy. I suggest 230 Fifth Avenue. It gets quite crowded now at night, but can be excellent for an after-work drink.

Bryant Park flicks on a Monday night define a summer in NYC. Get there early (like 5 pm). Seriously. I'm not kidding.
