Saw this guy tear it up at the Knitting Factory in NYC. Without being familiar with any of his music, I still found myself totally into this show. He effortlessly spans many different musical styles. Definitely a live show worth seeing.

She's still young but has the talent. She's even mentioned in one of Dylan's songs.

He'll never have Dylan's fame, but he certainly has his prolifigacy and depth.

Foisted into the middle age.

he's prolific acoustic songwriter with lots of sales and critical praise.

dylan comparisons rest on a couple points->

1. pop hits( like a rolling stone, etc)

2. lots of songs people cover and take high on the charts ( tambourine man, all along the watchtower, knocking on heaven's door, etc...)

3. critical acclain

4. longevity

anyways, conor definitely has a bunch of albums and critical praise but he doesn't have any pop hits and possibly he's been covered but not any hits out of those either.

I'm not sure this guy is all about 'gravitas', but he plays a mean guitar and comes up with some catchy tunes. He is definitely one of the finer rock artists of the day.

Jeff Tweedy

Tweedy is a special guy, there's no doubt. But I think he'd be the first one to dispute the comparison. In some sense he's more academic- Wilco digests all these different areas of rock and makes interesting new product- sometimes. Sky Blue Sky is pretty mediocre from what I'm hearing. Wilco is good rock- but are they cultural moment?

M. Ward

This guy is ever present yet totally understated. His music is hypnotic and captivating. I think we're just beginning to hear what he's going to do. Latest M. Ward appearance on Letterman with Jim James from MMJ and others is kind of neat, but I really kick my ass for missing his Town Hall appearance earlier this year, which made it into New York magazine's approval graph thingy on the upper right corner (x-axis: hi brow, y-axis: brilliant)
